Safety and Rules.

Track Safety Guidelines.

Riding safely must always be your top priority on the velodrome. All riders should aim to be polite, friendly, and aware of those around them. The following rules and advice are essential for maintaining a safe and respectful riding environment:

  1. Faster riders are responsible for passing safely.

  2. Slower riders must hold their line and ride predictably to allow safe passing.

  3. Do not swerve or move unpredictably to “get out of the way” — always maintain a straight path.

  4. The area between the pole and lower stayer’s line (black to red line) is reserved for fast riding, except when entering the track from the apron.

  5. Use the space between the stayer’s lines (blue lines) for slow or recovery riding.

  6. When riding slowly, never ride more than two abreast.

  7. The area from the top stayer’s line to the top of the track is reserved as an emergency lane, typically used for flying starts or sudden accelerations.

  8. Groups of four or more riders should only form when riding in a paceline. At all other times, keep group sizes to four or fewer, including during speed efforts.

  9. When changing position on the track (up or down), turn your head in the direction you intend to move, and glance behind you while doing so. Be aware of your path and surrounding riders — do not rely solely on peripheral vision.

  10. When approaching a slower rider who is turning their head in the direction you plan to pass, use the vocal command “STICK” to alert them to hold their line.

  11. If you hear “STICK”, immediately ride in a straight line. If you’re already maneuvering, correct your path to avoid veering.

  12. If you plan to practice standing starts with another rider, ask permission from everyone on the track first. Standing starts should not be done during busy sessions.

  13. Do not rest or hang bikes on the outer edge rails or ropes. Hooking handlebars over the edge is dangerous and strictly prohibited.

  14. Never cross the track while a race is in progress. Wait until the race is completely finished. Always look both ways before crossing, as slower riders may still be completing their laps.
